Richard Alston Dance Company
New mixed programme of work
Malvern Theatres

Richard Alston Dance Company returns to Malvern for the first time in nearly three years with a new mixed programme of work. Fingerprint, Nigredo, Brink and Lazy River:

Fingerprint is an inspired response to the intricate and inventive flow that is the genius of Bach. Fingerprint pairs the young Bach’s Capriccio for keyboard with the D Major Toaccata, a bright and forthright celebration of both subtlety and bravura.

Nigredo, a sequence of intimate and intricate duets, was created by Richard Alston for RADC’s acclaimed 2007 project with the Society for the Promotion of New Music, to piano music by the British composer Simon Holt.

Brink puts a new slant on Tango Nuevo, arranged here for the accordion by Japanese composer Ayuo. Sharp and dramatic duets reflect a contemporary twist on tango, driving it to the edge. (Chor: Martin Lawrance).

Gypsy Mixture, specially revived for the season, is one of Alton’s most joyous outpourings of humanity and high spirits. Involving the whole company, it fairly races along, fuelled by the rough-and-ready warmth of Gypsy music from Romania.

"A glorious life-enhancing Ruckus ... gorgeous, exuberantly danced fun"
Daily Telegraph

"Like watching a highly tuned surgery team: by the piece's end, two musical skeletons have been perfectly excavated from their surrounding flesh and lie shining before you"
The Observer
